Monash University XYX Lab

Monash University’s XYX Lab examines the nexus of social space, the visual syntax of cities and the production and regulation of gender. We aim to make the spatial inequity of cities visible and understandable to a diverse audience. the HyperSext exhibition and repository detail how the gendering of space limits the ability of women, girls and gender diverse people to participate in cities.

* The term women and by extension girls, is used as inclusive of all women, including cis-women, trans-women and intersex women. Similarly, diverse sexual and gender identities is used to recognise the experience of people who do not necessarily identify as male or female. Sexual orientation and identity are also complex designations and we recognise that the LGBTQI+ designation does not necessarily capture the diversity of experiences, interests and perspectives of individual people or communities.
